Created in 1974 in an outpouring of national solidarity from Economic Operators in the Private Sector to support the Government's war effort, the National Council of Burkinabé Patronage (CNPB) was officially incorporated and recognized in 1976.

At the time, it only brought together companies whose overcrowding in the long run made management difficult. Thus, to remedy this situation, the statutes of the organization were amended in the 1980s to allow only the membership of professional groups, associations and unions whose basic members are companies.

To date, the CNPB has over eighty professional groups and associations with grassroots members from large, small, medium and micro-enterprises active in all sectors of the Burkinabè economy.
