Supporting Equity in and Access to Vocational Training
PEFOP supports multiple activities in partner countries relating to the strategic axes that determine its action.
In this section, discover its analysis, action and achievements in terms of strengthening equity in and access to vocational training.
As part of the Education and Training Sector Program (PSEF) developed and initiated by the Government of Niger for the period 2014-2024, one of the missions of the National Observatory for Employment and Vocational Training (ONEF) is to ensure the regular availability of reliable and up-to-date information on the labor market. To achieve this specific objective, ONEF requested methodological support from IIEP-UNESCO Dakar to develop a digital platform for collecting, processing, storing and disseminating data on employment and vocational training.
In Cameroon, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar supports the Federation of Family Farm Schools of the Far North (FEREFAN), which has deployed an alternative training offer in the northern region of Cameroon, a region where the school offer is poorly developed. Through this support project, the aim is to strengthen the sustainability and attractiveness of FEREFAN's vocational training system for rural producers, in particular by networking the actors involved in work-study training.
In Senegal, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar is involved with the Société de Développement et des Fibres Textiles (SODEFITEX), which aims to facilitate the certification at the national level of the vocational training courses it has developed in the southern part of Senegal and which are conducted in local languages.
In Burkina Faso, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar is supporting the Christian Organization for Relief and Development (CREDO) in the implementation of a specialized vocational support for disadvantaged youth. This project is being implemented in the region of Bobo-Dioulasso, the economic capital of Burkina Faso, and its objective is to enable disadvantaged young people to benefit from education and appropriate training in order to facilitate their integration into the job market and to become autonomous and responsible.
"A prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development"
Mauritania has set on May 20, 2020 by ministerial order the conditions for the implementation of the Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE) for the Certificates of Competence (CC), the Certificates of Vocational Aptitude (CAP) and the Technician Brevets (BT).
Like most countries in the region, Mauritania is seeking to strengthen its vocational training system, taking into account the essential characteristics of its economy and labour market.
Diagnoses of obstacles were carried out in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Senegal between December 2015 and July 2016, through the prism of PEFOP’s five strategic axes. The combined analysis of the results obtained in these three countries highlights several similarities for each axis.
