As part of completion of the Platform of Expertise in Vocational Training (Pefop) programme, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar has organized an international workshop on 1 and 2 June 2022 in Dakar, to draw the major lessons from the Pefop programme and discuss, with African actors and international partners, the future perspectives of IIEP-UNESCO to continue to provide relevant and effective support. The workshop brought together more than 80 African actors and partners.
On May 23 and 24, 2022, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar organized a webinar to share the results of two studies on (i) the contextualization and adaptation of the Competency-Based Approach (CBA) and (ii) the training and management of trainers and supervisory staff in Africa. The webinar brought together nearly 100 participants from 13 African countries, including officials and stakeholders from the 8 countries covered by the two studies, international organizations, TFPs and experts.
As part of the Education and Training Sector Program (PSEF) developed and initiated by the Government of Niger for the period 2014-2024, one of the missions of the National Observatory for Employment and Vocational Training (ONEF) is to ensure the regular availability of reliable and up-to-date information on the labor market. To achieve this specific objective, ONEF requested methodological support from IIEP-UNESCO Dakar to develop a digital platform for collecting, processing, storing and disseminating data on employment and vocational training.
Within the global framework aiming at transforming the Regional Training Center for Road Maintenance (CERFER) in a pole of excellence responding effectively to the labor market skills needs, the African Development Fund finances a project (PAIF) to support the integration of training in road, railway and mining trades within the member countries of the Agreement Council. IIEP-UNESCO is one of the technical partner for this project.
In Cameroon, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar supports the Federation of Family Farm Schools of the Far North (FEREFAN), which has deployed an alternative training offer in the northern region of Cameroon, a region where the school offer is poorly developed. Through this support project, the aim is to strengthen the sustainability and attractiveness of FEREFAN's vocational training system for rural producers, in particular by networking the actors involved in work-study training.
In Senegal, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar is involved with the Société de Développement et des Fibres Textiles (SODEFITEX), which aims to facilitate the certification at the national level of the vocational training courses it has developed in the southern part of Senegal and which are conducted in local languages.
The adequacy between training needs and the offers proposed by the traditional structures of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is not always met. This is why more and more training offers are emerging from private companies or civil society, from a local perspective. Discover three examples of innovative training offers in Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Senegal.
In Burkina Faso, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar is supporting the Christian Organization for Relief and Development (CREDO) in the implementation of a specialized vocational support for disadvantaged youth. This project is being implemented in the region of Bobo-Dioulasso, the economic capital of Burkina Faso, and its objective is to enable disadvantaged young people to benefit from education and appropriate training in order to facilitate their integration into the job market and to become autonomous and responsible.
